WHO STARTED INSPIRED BY CULTURE?

Ujana-Kandake is the award winning cultural event expert who created this outstanding brand. She has been involved in cultural activities all her life and has worked in cultural spaces in the local community as well as the retail industry for over 20 years.

Ujana-Kandake was awarded the prestigious Inspired Mark of the London 2012 Games Cultural Olympiad for her Cultural Fun Day which she managed for 10 years. The theme of being inspired had just been born. 

Participation in cultural events as well as organising them has been key activity for Ujana-Kandake who is an enthusiastic cultural masquerader performing at carnivals in the UK and around the world. Ujana-Kandake has a history of organising cultural markets and has toured the UK as an event stall holder selling cultural merchandise gaining extensive knowledge of the needs of customers in this niche.

Ujana-Kandake also loves travelling around the world to experience cultures and has co-authored a book about experiences of living across Africa. She plans to expand the brand into offering cultural tours to places people would love to explore in Southern Africa. 

Ujana-Kandake has also co-hosted and produced radio shows on music culture on BBC 3 Counties and will be producing a podcast on culture as part of the marketing strategy for the Inspired By Culture Brand. 

WHY WAS INSPIRED BY CULTURE CREATED?

The foundation of the brand is that celebrating one’s culture is an important part of any society and that you can transform negatives towards your cultural background into positives.

Ujana-Kandake suffered a life threatening moment triggered by the pressure of struggling under work stress. She had been experiencing conflicts and undermining behaviour during her professional career as an employee because of her cultural heritage. 

This crucial health event propelled Ujana-Kandake to make a life changing choice. After spending 5 years studying at Bedford College and the University Of Cambridge, then another 2 years to gain a Post-Graduate Degree and her QTS to teach Geography she had to weigh up what was most important. 

One deep breath later, Ujana-Kandake immediately switched careers and left the stress behind! It was time use her cultural background and retail experience to her advantage. She became a full time entrepreneur in arena of retailing cultural goods and providing cultural services. She will passionately source products to cater for anyone proud of their cultural heritage. The great news is she can still teach everyone about culture like a true geographer.
